Developing our Racial Consciousness as Coaching Professionals with Bernice Hewson

Bernice Hewson

The subject of race has long been taboo in British society however, since May 2020 when George Floyd was murdered and protests broke out around the world, the discourse has changed.

In our workplaces, executives are under the spotlight to ensure diversity and inclusion is on the agenda. In your role as their independent sounding board, the person in their corner that brings challenge and supports change, how well equipped do you feel holding that space?

Developing our racial consciousness means to build knowledge and awareness of the racial inequalities that exist in society and understanding how these inequalities impact our everyday institutions and lived experiences.

This session sets out to explore the value of racial consciousness and how vital it is, individually and professionally, if we are to truly flourish.

Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced.
